Real Talk: Why We Distribute Ceres Air Drones
In this industry, "experience" is a word that gets thrown around a lot. But in the world of spray drones, experience isn't measured in months or marketing budgets—it’s measured in millions of acres covered, the dust in your face at sunset, and those "ah sh*t" moments when something goes wrong and you're stuck combing through facebook and useless manuals.
For us, it’s also measured in those 3:00 AM tech support calls to overseas manufacturers, trying to solve a hardware failure while a customer’s spray window is slamming shut.
Our Choice, Our Reputation
Before we get into the "what" and the "how," there is something I think is important to understand about how we operate: we are independent. Our focus is on offering the best hardware and services that customers actually want and need. We aren't constrained to a single manufacturer, and we aren't forced to carry any specific product line.
In short: If we don’t trust it, we don’t sell it. Over the last decade, we’ve sold and supported practically every brand on the market—from the early pioneers like TTA to DJI, Hylio, XAG and more recently, Vector AGR. We introduced America to what I now refer to as "retro" spraying drones over a year before DJI released their first ag platform. Because we are independent, we have the freedom to pick the tools we believe in. Now, we’re adding Ceres Air to our lineup. Here’s why.
Built by People Solving the Struggle
I was in the loop on what Ceres was building long before it was announced. They are an American-based company with leadership that came directly from the spray drone distribution space in Missouri. Because they have spent years on the dealer and support side of this industry, they understand first-hand what it’s like to support these platforms in the real world.
But most importantly, they’re building for the American farmer. We’ve seen the writing on the wall for a while now… beyond geopolitical “stuff,” customers (and us!) have really wanted a domestic solution. Ceres is the right partner at the right time, providing a "for us, by us" approach that makes American growers the center of the business, instead of an afterthought.
Transparency: Ceres is Setting the Standard
You’ve probably noticed it: suddenly, every drone company is draping themselves in the flag. "American Made" has become a hell of a marketing sticker, but in many cases, it’s just that—literally a sticker (!!!) As a distributor, our responsibility is to cut through that noise.
U.S. manufacturing at this scale is a massive undertaking. It requires insane amounts of time, money, tooling, and "shopping around" for the right suppliers. Most companies don’t talk about this—they don’t want you to see behind the curtain and realize they aren’t as American-made as they claim. Ceres is the only one I've seen being completely honest about the journey. That level of transparency is exactly what Raptor requires to put a brand in our lineup.
If you go to the "About" page on Ceresair.com and scroll to the bottom, you’ll see a transparent, detailed timeline of their progress toward being fully American Made. They aren’t hiding behind "assembled in the USA" labels or stickers; they’re showing the work. They moved faster than anyone to adjust for recent FCC rules, proving they are actually listening to what the market needs.
Software Built for the Long Haul
A major factor in our decision was Ceres’ Applicator View. It’s American-made software designed to "play nice" with systems you already use, like John Deere Ops Center and Agremo. Unlike closed ecosystems, Ceres actually gives operators a seat at the table by allowing users to upvote feature requests that directly drive their development roadmap.
Most importantly, we believe this keeps customers ahead of a massive curve. With proposed FCC rules potentially freezing non-American software updates by 2027, we want to make sure our customers have a compliant path forward. I want to be clear: drones running Chinese-based software aren’t going to suddenly stop working or fall out of the sky. But being "frozen" means you’re locked out of critical bug fixes, security patches, and performance updates. In my view, the only way to truly protect our customers’ investment is to stay on a platform that is aligned with regulations and is cleared for the future. We’ll do a deeper dive into the software in a later post, but for now, I want folks to know Ceres aircraft are built to work as hard as you do.
The Raptor Bottom Line
At Raptor, we don't "force a fit." We, and our nationwide dealer network help people find the right drone for their exact operation; our reputation is on the line every time a piece of equipment leaves our shop, so we gotta get it right.
Is Ceres Air the perfect drone for every single person today? No—no drone is! But they’ve earned our trust by being consistent. They do what they say they’re going to do, and when a timeline shifts or a plan changes, they’re upfront about it immediately. While others are busy playing the “someday, one day” game, Ceres is actually out there turning wrenches and building. If that’s not American grit in action, I don’t know what is.
If you’re ready to hear it straight and want a team that’s going to be in your corner for the long haul, give us a call. We’ve been here for the last decade, and we look forward to being right there with you for the next many decades to come.
